In the world of bookkeeping, numbers become the unsung heroes that light the path for charitable organizations to thrive and make a lasting impact… It sounds poetic, but it’s also true!

I recently had the opportunity to sit down with someone who serves the local council by supporting small and medium-sized charities in the city. What a wonderful job!

As I was thinking about how much good he must be able to do in such a role, I realized how my position as a bookkeeper, specializing in creating cohesive financial procedures, also brings tremendous value to charities, and in truth, all the businesses I help. After all, charitable organizations must be careful with every incoming and outgoing penny because so many parties are paying attention (and scrutinizing…).

A robust bookkeeping system can not only help a charity track its money; it can also enhance, elevate, and even develop the organization’s activities:

All incoming and outgoing funds are tracked in one place, making it simpler to monitor the various streams of income, as well as potential leaks.

  • Focused reports can be created for restricted funds & advanced costs, making the oversight of earmarked funds more straightforward, and making it less difficult to project costs of future events, and so on.
  • Financial processes can be streamlined for all expenditures & inflows, simplifying the organization’s financials
  • Paperwork collection can be optimised, leading to better regulatory compliance and easier report generation for stakeholders

Maybe you don’t get as excited about these things as I do, but that’s life as a bookkeeper! I’m grateful not only for the opportunity to have met this local charity development worker but also for having had the chance to think about how I am helping charities in my role as a bookkeeper.
